Lindsay Wilson
Born in Germany, moved to Texas where I grew up, and went to
university. I hold a degree in Speech Communication and in Graphic
Design. I moved to Chicago shortly after graduating to start a
career in advertising. That plan didn't work out so well. Instead,
a family friend introduced me to a company called Capgemini Ernst
and Young and the rest is as you say, history. As a contractor back
in 2002, I was introduced to the MG Taylor methodology and to
scribing. I spent the next 10 years as an independent contractor
helping organize and deliver events for corporate clients all over
the world. It was a blast. I learned so much. It was like getting
an MBA through osmosis.
In 2011, I had the opportunity to start a company with two
other amazing visual thinkers and independent contractors Dusty
Folwarzcny and Ryan Robinson. We talked for months about how we
wanted to approach things and what our vision would be. In October
of 2011, we launched Ink Factory out of Ryan's live/work loft in
Chicago. We've grown the business now to 11 full-time employees and
continue to work towards accomplishing our vision. Which is a world
where visuals are the universal language.
The journey has been a blast. The clients, the places we have
been, the friends we have made - it's all been amazing. And a lot
of hard work.
We will be celebrating our 9th birthday this
year!!
My role at Ink Factory is currently COO. I oversee the
day-to-day operations and internal strategies, manage the
financials, and oversee a team of three administrative support. As
a small business, you tend to wear a lot of hats. And this could
not be more true for me. I am a visual note-taker at heart. I love
to deliver work and work directly with clients. I am also project
manager for events, handle HR operations, and can often be called
the Chief Prank Officer. Never a dull moment at Ink
Factory.
I would love to talk about Think Like Ink. Which is our
educational arm of Ink Factory. 2020 was going to be our year for
teaching in-person workshops. We even built out a brand new studio
to facilitate this. However, 2020 had different plans. Like with
any sour situation, we are looking for the silver lining, and the
silver lining with the shutdown has been the ability to offer our
workshop across time zones and borders. We've been able to teach
just over 20 workshops this year and have global representation in
each workshop.
I love to bring levity to any situation and my favorite color
is grey!
